How am I preparing, should I be elected Mayor?
There are three candidates for Mayor this year...a very unusual situation for Mint Hill! I'd like to tell you why I think I'm your best choice.
I may not have specific experience in this town's government...although I have learned a tremendous amount in the past two years. I am a great researcher, a fast learner, and I excel at finding out who to talk to in order to get the answers and information I seek.
Since declaring my candidacy, I've done the following (and more!):
MET IN PERSON WITH:
*Director of Mint Hill’s Historical Society
*Police Chief Ledford
*Ex-Mayor of a neighboring town
*Current Mayor of another nearby town
*Parks and Rec Director of a neighboring town
*The director of the town's Chamber of Commerce
*Several residents who asked to meet with me
(there are several more people I still need to meet with)
SPOKE ON THE PHONE (lengthy conversations) WITH:
*NCDOT Division 10 Engineer regarding the proposed superstreet widening of 51
*Assistant Director of Engineering for a NC town that’s been living with a superstreet regarding benefits/detriments to this town related to the superstreet
*NC School of Government regarding several laws
*CMS Board Member regarding HB514 (now called SL 2018-3)
*YMCA Senior Vice President of Operations (locates new Y’s)
*Another local town’s Park and Rec employee regarding the cost of a splash pad they had installed in their park
HAD EMAIL EXCHANGES (questions and answers) WITH:
*NC School of Government
*NCDOT Division 10 traffic engineer
*NC House of Representatives member (current)
*Senior Planner, Meck County Parks and Rec Department (lots of conversations because I have lots of ideas (and he has lots of answers)!)
HAD TEXT EXCHANGES WITH:
Several residents with various issues related to the town:
*zoning
*public works
*HB514/SL 2018-3
*Bond issues from last year
CALLED AND/OR EMAILED:
*Several town employees
READ UP ON:
*All online Agendas and Minutes from Mint Hill’s BOC, Planning Board, Parks and Rec Committee (going back several years)
*Bills the town accrued in relation to the Bonds last year
*Laws related to various government activities
*A book about NC town governments and the roles and positions of various state, county, and local entities

So, why should you vote for me, and not one of the other candidates?
I'm not afraid to form my own opinions and set personal visions and goals for Mint Hill's future...nor am I hesitant to share them with the press or on social media.
I don't carry any baggage that comes from being a Commissioner on a Board that tried to sneak changes into a bond, spent $300,000+ on a fountain in front of Town Hall, or feels that 14 minute BOC meetings once a month are adequate to run a town.
I'm just someone who started noticing that things weren't quite right...then did some investigating...and realized that changes had to be made.
